Helping Nonprofits Meet Their Long-Term Philanthropic Goals
With assets under management of over $1 billion, our advisors have nearly 100 years of combined experience advising private foundations and public charities and their boards on the management and stewardship of their endowments.
Our Investment Process
At JNBA we take a three-pronged approach to endowment management:
- Portfolio Optimization: At the heart of any endowment is the Investment Policy Statement (IPS). We work with nonprofit boards and their investment committees to develop both an IPS and an asset allocation that are optimized to provide long‑term growth through equity investments while managing volatility and providing liquidity through fixed income and inflation-hedging assets.
- Portfolio Management: With an asset allocation in place, we utilize tactical shifts and manager selection to implement the investment strategy. The JNBA Investment Committee monitors and incorporates best-in-class research to make tactical shifts in asset allocation. As an independent fiduciary advisor, we take an objective approach to manager selection, and we do not receive commissions or revenue share from any funds used in our portfolios.
- Active Oversight: We believe that a disciplined approach to rebalancing portfolios can help manage volatility and improve returns. We review every portfolio every 10 business days to take advantage of market volatility and manage liquidity needs.
Endowment Specific Investing
We recognize that endowments have their own unique needs. With the long-term goal of growing the portfolio to maintain the endowment’s purchasing power relative to inflation, we partner closely with investment committees to manage liquidity needs throughout the year.
Socially Responsible Investing
Most nonprofits and foundations today recognize the need to align their investments with their values. To help ensure that endowment investments are not at cross-purposes to the missions of their organizations, we offer a robust and customizable Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) platform.
