Changes coming to Minnesota’s UCare

Financial Planning Committee

If you’ve been following the news, you will have seen that several changes are on the horizon for Minnesotans who access Medicare through UCare. As a news reference, KSTP-TV did a short story on October 1, 2025.

In summary, UCare will be cancelling all 180,000 UCare Advantage contracts in Minnesota, effective January 1, 2026. JNBA has been in touch with a trusted health insurance advisor who is one of our valued professional partners. He warns that if participants do not enroll in a new plan, they will be moved to Medicare without drug coverage.

Additionally, costs are expected to increase. While typical UCare plans were running $30 to $50 per month, participants can expect rates to increase to $300 to $500 per month.

For those impacted by this UCare change, you must call 1-800-633-4227 or go online and enroll for a new plan through Medicare (medicare.gov).

The window to select a new plan starts with Open Enrollment, which takes place from October 15, 2025, to December 7, 2025. However, for those who are currently on a UCARE plan, an additional enrollment period will be available from December 8, 2025, to December 28, 2025.

If you have questions about how the changes at UCare could impact you and your finances, reach out to your JNBA Advisory Team.
