Chief Investment Officer/Senior Advisor

Michael has particular expertise in individual investments and securities evaluation. As JNBA’s Chief Investment Officer, Michael leads the firm’s investment committee that drives the firm’s investment philosophy and decision-making. He has been a team member for the past 14 years, and during that time focused on helping executives maximize their stock option programs, developing comprehensive diversification strategies for concentrated stock positions, and focusing on a balance between the need to diversify and tax sensitivity.

Highly-qualified in all areas of financial and estate planning, Michael plays a key role in the firm’s peer review process of financial plan development. He is also one of just a handful of financial professionals in Minnesota to complete the Chartered Advisor for Senior Living™ (CASL) program which concentrates on meeting the specific needs of mature clients.

Prior to joining JNBA, Michael worked as an Investment Manager and Trust Administrator at Norwest Bank. He has 18 years experience in the investment industry.

In his spare time, Michael is an active sports-enthusiast. But, those spare moments are few and far between: Michael and his wife’s chief priority are raising their two energetic young boys.
